Okay, I would like to make a toast to my roommate and my best friend, Melody Valentine, who, against all odds, left law school in order to, uh, write and publish her very first novel, Summer Storm. I'm so proud of you. You fearlessly chased your dream and you're a badass for it. I love you.
— Valerie to Melody[src]

Valerie Brown is a recurring character on The CW's Riverdale. She is portrayed by Hayley Law.

Valerie was a student at Riverdale High School and a member of Josie and the Pussycats. She briefly reformed the band with Veronica, dubbed "Veronica and the Pussycats". She and Melody left after confronting Josie who was secretly pursuing a solo career. Valerie also briefly dated Archie until he became too involved with the Blossoms.

Seven years later, Val is working as a barista and painting on the side while living with Melody. When Josie, who is now a multi platinum recording artist, returns to town, the Pussycats reunite and join Josie on tour.

Early Life[]

Valerie grew up in Riverdale, alongside her brother, Trev. During their youth. Valerie, Josie, and Melody worked at Power Records, where they would spend their time practicing in the stock room. One day, Josie came to rehearsal with a bag of cheap cat ears that she had gotten from the Halloween store, thus the birth of Josie and the Pussycats. In the years following, they'd go on to win Rockland County's Battle of the Bands.

Physical Appearance[]

Valerie is a young lady with caramel colored skin, green eyes, and fluffy-curly, light brown hair. She has a naturally slim figure, with a big and beautiful smile. Valerie often wears casual but feminine clothing, such as a leather jacket, denim jeans or a skirt with a tight-fitting shirt or crop top.

Personality[]

Having been tasked with the responsibility of songwriting, Valerie was essentially the brains behind Josie and the Pussycats. She was a valuable member of the band and often seen as irreplaceable due to her great skill in writing. According to Myles McCoy, Valerie is the real deal. She offered the Pussycats some much-needed integrity. Apart from music, she is strong-willed, independent, grounded and level-headed, especially when those around her aren't. During a confusing time in his life, she advised Archie against falling into the Blossoms' manipulative grasps, as they were buying him with fancy suits, new guitars, and access to a prestigious music program, which she would much rather have gained access to through her own talent. Valerie is also loyal, having bonded with her bandmates, Josie and Melody, after such an extensive period of time together.

The relationship between Valerie Brown, Josie McCoy, and Melody Valentine started during their youth. They were close friends and together, the three of them made up the highly ambitious rock band, Josie and the Pussycats. They met and befriended each other while working at Power Records, where they used to practice together. One day, Josie came up with the idea of calling themselves the Pussycats after showing up to practice with cheap cat ears from the Halloween store. Valerie temporarily left the band after she and Josie had a dispute, but they eventually worked it out and found their way back to each other. However, this dispute pales in comparison to the one that followed after Valerie and Melody learned that Josie was starting her solo career and was leaving the Pussycats. Seven years after graduation, they reunite with Josie and take the Pussycats on tour.

Season 1 Episode 9 La Grande Illusion Archie Val (3)

The relationship between Valerie and Archie began as a friendship, with Valerie helping Archie with his music. But this soon advanced to romance. However, their relationship did not last long, as Valerie felt Archie was drifting away from her and becoming too involved with the Blossoms. Thus, Valerie broke up with him after she'd had enough of being ignored. Archie attempted to make up for ignoring Valerie, but Valerie turned him away. Despite their issues, Valerie still supported Archie and his family after his father was shot at Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe by the Black Hood. She, along with the rest of the Pussycats, paid Archie a visit at Riverdale General Hospital, giving their prayers and "nine lives" to Fred. Since Fred's recovery, Archie and Valerie have not interacted with one another.
