1692[]
- Over time, many witches who came from the old country settled in the land that later became the town of Greendale to escape their persecution in Salem and Europe.
- Dorothea Putnam gave the Greendale Thirteen safe passage from Scotland to Greendale to escape prosecution. She transported them by boat, across the Atlantic to Greendale which they thought would be a safe place. However, this was wrong and they were hunted once again. They were then hung on the hanging tree by witch hunters. But despite their kind abandoning them, they were not alone. It was Dorothea who didn't abandon them and cut them down from the tree on which they were hung upon. She later buried them on the land on which her farm stood.
- The fourteen women belonging to the earliest incarnation of the Church of Night were chased out of the township of Greendale into the hills, the forest. To avoid starvation that winter, Freya, the youngest, strongest witch sacrificed herself and offered up her body as sustenance to her fellow witches.
1700s[]
- The first settlers arrived in the area that would later become Riverdale. The original Grandpappy Blossom first came to the banks of Sweetwater River to make his trade in maple syrup. He struggled, at first, but after his first bountiful harvest, he and the other settlers celebrated.
- In 1706, the settlers decided that each year they would sacrifice several young girls in order to appease the Maple Gods. The choosing ceremony was comparable to a beauty pageant. The girls were hanged from a large maple tree and buried underneath it. The practice was abolished by the progressive mayor Theodosius Little right before the Civil War. The revels were replaced by an actual pageant and a simpler, happier festival. To keep the tradition of celebrating the harvest alive. [1]
1890[]
- Abigail Blossom ran an all-girl school from Thornhill, where she was harassed by the townspeople for months, as they knew of the palladium to be found in the mines under the maple groves. When she refused to sell, they decided to steal it instead. Armed with pitchforks and torches, they came as a mob in the black of night to Thornhill and dragged Abigail from her home. They accused her of being a witch and burned her at the stake in the groves surrounding Thornhill. The primary conspirators in her death were Archibald Andrews, Jedediah Jones, and Beatrice Cooper. With her dying words, Abigail cursed them and the others, damning them to tragedy as well. After her death, the townspeople claimed the mines and began to dig for palladium, but there was a collapse, killing and entombing an entire generation of Riverdale's fathers and sons.
